The Oakland Raiders came out strong against their archrival… Wait, no they didn’t come out strong or anything remotely like it. They gave the game to the Denver Broncos wrapped in a nice shiny package with a bow on top. JaMarcus Russell was 12/21, 61 YDS, 2 INT. Those numbers are completely ridiculous for a starting NFL QB. The Raiders should seriously consider benching him until he gets his head straight. McFadden didn’t help either, he had three fumbles in the game and two were recovered by the Broncos. That makes seven fumbles in 16 games for mister DMAC. For a run first team it sure does not look like it is working. Denver outrushed Oakland 215-95. Maybe the Raiders should model their play calls after the Broncos. Stop relying on JaMarcus’ arm to win the game. It is not working. He cannot complete the easiest of passes let alone NFL caliber passes. JaMarcus is sure looking like the bust the media wants him to be, so what’s next? Sam Bradford is sure looking good about now.

Now we move on to the Oakland Raiders’ defense or lack thereof a defense. Oakland was out of position, off-balance and outplayed on defense and it showed big time. Denver made it look easy to move the ball against the Raiders on the ground and in the air. Basically whatever the Broncos offense wanted to do they did it with out resistance. Oakland’s defensive line could not get any pressure on Kyle Orton. They may have hurried Orton once or twice all game. The D line did not fair any better against the run allowing the Broncos 215 yards on the ground. The Linebackers were no help either with their poor tackling and very poor pass coverage. Morrison got worked in the middle of the field trying to cover Denver’s Wide Receivers. Seriously, Kirk Morrison against Brandon Marshall? That is not a favorable match up unless you’re Brandon Marshall. The Secondary faired a bit better only allowing 157 passing yards. Denver played a conservative game so those numbers don’t mean a lot. Poor game planning and an antiquated defense do not work in 2009.

The Raiders are lucky this one is in the books and it did not end up worse. If the Broncos had a bona fide offense in place this game could easily have been 45-3.

Next week Oakland faces the Houston Texans. If they don’t do something about their QB and Defensive situation it’s going to be another long day for the Oakland Raiders.
