Panthers Steve Smith and flag Football

As we all know, Panthers’ wide receiver Steve Smith broke his arm during a flag football game last Sunday at a local YMCA in Charlotte, North Carolina. During a press conference, Smith told reporters that he regretted breaking his arm and that he would not play flag football until he retires. Okay, so here is the Ugly Truth. Accidents happen. Why is everybody acting like this is the worst thing that Smith, 31, could have done? He was playing flag football, that’s it. Now I can understand if he had hurt himself while doing something stupid. If he had been out partying and got drunk, then, in his drunken stupor, fell down a flight of stairs, or gotten into a bar fight that got really bad, and broke his arm then, fine, slam him all you want, question his judgment. He wasn’t doing anything that was detrimental to the team, he was playing flag football. Yes, this will affect the team, but it’s not the worst thing I have heard about this offseason. Ben Roethlisberger, Vince Young, and Michael Vick are all being talked about for all the wrong reasons, but the media is slamming a guy for accidentally hurting himself. The man slipped, tried to catch himself by using his left arm, and it broke. Leave Smith alone and let him recover. Like I said accidents happen and the only way to prevent them is to basically live in a padded room, never leave home, and if you do wrap yourself in bubble wrap.
