Bengals NFL nails Bengals WR Terrell Owens for Tweeting; several others punished

An ill-timed Tweet cost Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Terrell Owens $5,000 on Friday, and his wallet might have gotten off light.

Owens was the most notable of a list of players fined by the NFL on Friday, getting pinched for tweeting an hour before Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The league forbids players and coaches from using social media 90 minutes before games, during and shortly after.

His tweet, which Owens said was part of his work with a charity that helps children in Kenya, was supposed to post later in the day. It read,

"A lucky fan wearing my jersey 2day will get a signed football by Me & Ocho Cinco! My asst will pick U out!! Good luck!"

Also fined:

* Detroit wide receiver Nate Burleson, $15,000 for kicking a football into the stands and flashing a shirt with a personal message in the Lions' 44-6 win against St. Louis;
* Houston's Antonio Smith, $12,500 for several infractions: two unnecessary roughness calls and a major facemask against the New York Giants;
* Washington's Jeremy Jarmon, $5,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers that gave him a concussion. Rodgers is probable for Sunday's home game against the Miami Dolphins.
