My Unsolicited Opinion
It was announced on August 30 that the Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donté Stallworth will not be playing in 2009. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Stallworth for the entire 2009 season without pay after accidentally killing a man in Miami, Florida. Stallworth was driving under the influence when he struck and killed Mario Reyes.
Some think the punishment is harsh yet fair. I don’t think it was harsh enough. Why should Stallworth get to go on with his life when Mario Reyes’ life has ended? Reyes’ family will never see him again because of Stallworth’s careless actions. Stallworth knew that what he was doing is illegal and dangerous. Yet he chose to drive drunk and now a man is dead.
I applaud Roger Goodell for the way he handled the situation but I really think that he deserves a harsher punishment.
