After getting cut by the Seahawks and spurned by the Vikings and Bengals, free agent wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh is now looking at the Raiders and Redskins.

Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times reports that Houshmandzadeh has not returned messages since being released, but a source who had spoken to Houshmandzadeh said he appears to be narrowing down his destinations to either Oakland or Washington.

The 32-year-old Houshmandzadeh led the Seahawks in catches last year and has more than 900 receiving yards in each of the last five seasons.

O'Neill writes that Houshmandzadeh is likely to sign for the veteran minimum salary in 2010.

I tweeted Saturday about the Titans having an interest in Raiders linebacker Thomas Howard, and I still believe that's the case.

The Titans have been bulking up at the position today, however, by claiming former Bears linebacker Tim Shaw and former Steelers linebacker Patrick Bailey off waivers.

Howard has started 62 games in his four-year NFL career, and he'd provide a big boost to a linebacker corps missing two players, David Thornton (injured) and Gerald McRath (suspended).

The big question: are the Raiders willing to deal him?

With the Titans scheduled to play the Raiders on Sept. 12, it wouldn't make any sense for the Raiders to help their opening day opponent by working a deal now. After Sept. 12? Perhaps.

Sounds like it's up to the Raiders at this point.

When the Cowboys picked receiver Dez Bryant in the first round of the 2010 draft, receiver Patrick Crayton knew that his days in Dallas were numbered.

And he was right.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Crayton has been traded to the Chargers for a seventh-round draft pick.

The move means that rookie Dez Bryant will immediately see playing time in the receiver rotation. It also means that the Chargers are making additional plans for life without Vincent Jackson, who still could be traded and who in any event remains unlikely to play for the team in 2010.

Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable is so encouraged about the team's upgrades heading into the upcoming season that he believes the team will make the playoffs, according to Aaron Wilson, of NationalFootballPost.com. "I actually believe that's where we are headed, there's no doubt," Cable said. "When I look at us as a football team, our biggest opponent is us. That's our goal right now, that's our purpose, to take care of us. How we handle things, from penalties to discipline to tackling to finishing to being on times, will write the script for what we are this year. Thirty-two of us are similar right now. We feel good about ourselves right now.

Oakland Raiders RB Michael Bush (thumb) suffered a fractured thumb Saturday, Aug. 28, and will see a hand specialist Sunday, Aug. 29, reports Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers. Head coach Tom Cable said Bush's status won't be known until he sees the specialist. Bush echoed his coach's comments, saying he did not know if or how long he would be out.
