Chiefs Chiefs release Amani Toomer, 2 others

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Chiefs have released Amani Toomer, ending the veteran receiver's short-lived stint with the team.

Toomer signed with Kansas City on Aug. 4 after spending his first 13 seasons with the New York Giants. He never made much of an impact, spending most of the preseason working with the second and third teams.

The Chiefs on Tuesday also released defensive end Alfonso Boone and tackle Cameron Goldberg. Devard Darling, a starter for most of preseason, was placed on injured reserve after hurting his knee Saturday against Seattle.

Running back Kolby Smith was placed on the physically unable to perform list. He has missed nearly all of preseason with an undisclosed injury.
