NFL Report: Vick drawing interest

At least five NFL teams have quietly shown interest in signing Michael Vick, The Washington Post reported, citing several people familiar with the deliberations.

"I don't know where he's gonna end up ... I can't tell you which teams, but I know there's at least five," a person familiar with the situation said on condition of anonymity, the newspaper reported.

It has been two weeks since commissioner Roger Goodell conditionally reinstated Vick, whose 23-month federal prison sentence for bankrolling a dogfighting ring ended last month.

The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback, who has missed the past two seasons, is free to join a team for training camp and practices. Once the season begins, Vick may participate in all team activities except games, and Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by Week 6 (Oct. 18-19) at the latest.

Former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, who is now serving as Vick's adviser, said on a nationally televised preseason game Sunday that Vick has spoken with several NFL teams and that he believes Vick will be signed before training camp ends.

During Sunday night's NBC broadcast of the Hall of Fame game, Dungy said, "I've talked to quite a few coaches who want to get my thoughts on where [Vick] is."

Although Dungy said he wasn't sure if Vick is in football-playing shape, a person familiar with the situation said Vick is in very good condition after training with speed coach Tom Shaw, the Post reported.

Several teams have gone on record as saying they're not interested in Vick, but others have indicated they have not ruled out signing him.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
