That Defense was fired up! I kept waiting for the eventual meltdowns, blown gap assignments and coverages and until our coaches tucked tail we were on point. The defensive line allowed our LBs to roam free and I saw T Howard become a big factor. The speed of our LBs finally came into play with the middle of the line turning things outside. We did not get fooled per the usual on screens and quick slants. We swarmed to the ball for over three quarters. After all that hard work with the players proving they can maul the Chargers up front, the Coaches take it all away and we lose the game. That is a slap to the face of our defensive players, a vote of no confidence by coward coaching. It's like sending troops in to a hot zone and telling them to hold fire no matter what. I would rather see us get beat deep applying full pressure than to let them walk down the field on us. When the defense is playing lights out don't turn off the switch. I would not have blamed Al one bit for punching our DC in the jaw after that. Al was watching his defense work and work well only to have a chicken shit DC blow it. When do the players just ignore the moron and continue to apply pressure? Mutiny anytime the prevent is called!!!!!!!! (That's for you phx)

I'm curious. How many times did we blitz in the 4th? Has anyone counted it up?

Rivers had all day to exploit the massive areas of the field we left open.

Steve Young couldn't believe the way our LBs were clearing out.

If I am playing on the defense I am going to go off on the DC and tell him he had better call it right. I fucking hate with every cell in my body the prevent coward defense. We are no a zone team at all. We need to stick to what is best. If Marshal does this again he should get fired.

I agree, how many times have we seen a team go into prevent only to be drove on for the game winning score.

Prevent defense caused us to lose the game. After that great play by Russell to Murphy, what do we do? We go into prevent defense and allowed Phillip Rivers to pick apart our defense and win. It happens every time we come from behind. We left way too much time left in the game, but I wasn't worried about that because we were holding our own. We need not to ever go into prevent defense...EVER!!!!

Scoring a TD on hideously blown coverage is not a "great play." It's a lucky break, and something any pro team should be able to do.

JMO.

When you suck to the degree this team has for the last 6 years, that play was a great play. The King wasn't exactly spot on accurate all game but he did manage to put the ball where it needed to be on that play.

If you're Asomugha and Johnson there has to be a significant amount of frustration that the coaches call on you to take care of your own shit for 3.75 quarters, then force help on you for the last .25. Will never understand the so called 'prevent' defense. It just prevents you from winning.
