Default Schilens takes the field

Quote:
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 at 1:24 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Wide receiver Chaz Schilens went through drills and warmups and was in the regular rotation catching passes during the first phase of offense Wednesday, a strong indication he could be active when the Raiders host the Philadelphia Eagles.

Schilens has been out eight weeks with a broken fifth metatarsal. In the meantime, the Raiders wide receivers have been the least productive in the NFL, combining for 15 receptions (Louis Murphy 11, Todd Watkins 3, Darrius Heyward-Bey 2) for 258 yards (Murphy 174, Watkins 46, Heyward-Bey 36).

In the lone preseason game in which he played, Schilens was targeted five times against Dallas and caught five passes _ all in the first quarter. He also drew a penalty for pass interference.

By contrast, Heyward-Bey has been targeted 20 times and has caught two passes.

Left guard Robert Gallery was not on on the practice field, meaning he’s probably still at least a week away from returning. Defensvie end Greg Ellis, who had an arthritic knee drained, was not practicing.

Also out was fullback Luke Lawton (ankle). With Lawton out and Oren O’Neal waived/injured, Gary Russsell was taking first-team reps at fullback. Marcel Reece is available off the practice squad if necessary, with the Raiders not having to waive a player until game day since he’s already practicing with the team.

Linebacker Ricky Brown left the facility before practice to visit the doctor and said no one had discussed surgery with him as yet. Coach Tom Cable said Brown, who tore ligaments on the outside of his ankle, would be out for the season with surgery but could return in a month if rehabbed.

Jon Alston, who had a concussion against the Giants, was practicing with the team and should be available to start at strong side linebacker with Sam Williams in reserve.

More to come later . . .

All the hopes for offensive rest on the shoulders of Chaz Freaking Schilens. This team is beyond fucked.

Those stats for all the WR's combined are ghastly.

Fuck 'em.
