Raiders Richard Seymour criticizes Belichick

In a conference call yesterday with members of the New York media, former Patriots defensive lineman Richard Seymour said that he was disappointed with the way Bill Belichick handled the blockbuster preseason deal that sent Seymour to the Raiders for a first-round pick in the 2011 draft.

According to Bob Glauber's account on Newsday.com, Seymour complained that he learned about the trade by phone, and said, "I wouldn't have handled the situation that way. I'd at least have called him into the office and looked at him face-to-face, not over the phone. To each his own. I moved on from the situation. I wish them nothing but success."

In the same conference call, Seymour ripped into the Giants and particularly linebacker Antonio Pierce. Two weeks ago, the Giants embarrassed the Raiders, 44-7, and Pierce later said that the game felt like a scrimmage and that Oakland did not play with any kind of pride. The following week, the Giants themselves were blown away by Drew Brees and the Saints, 48-27.

"They got what they deserved this week," Seymour said. "I'm not sure how many points the Saints scored on them, but if I'm not mistaken, it was about half a 100 points. He's got enough to chew on with that."

Most surprising of all, Seymour made an appearance yesterday on Two Deep Zone, a radio show hosted by former players Artrell Hawkins and Charles Fisher, and he just about guaranteed that his widely dismissed 2-4 Raiders are postseason-bound. "You can mark it down," Seymour said. "The Raiders will be in the playoffs in 2009."
