Default Early Doucet: The Oakland Raiders' Answer at Wide Receiver?

Early Doucet: The Oakland Raiders' Answer at Wide Receiver?

Since Tim Brown retired the Oakland Raiders have been searching for legitimate No. 1 receiver. Jerry Porter and Randy Moss never worked out as Mr. Al Davis had hoped. Terrell Owens was not even considered and for Raider Nation that was a good thing.

With the best remaining free agents being Marvin Harrison, who is turning 37 before the season starts, and 32-year-old Tory Holt, many in the Raider Nation are wondering where to get a young and talented receiver. We should just ask the Arizona Cardinals and no I’m not talking about trading for Anquan Boldin.

A trade for Boldin would cost the Raiders far too much. If you think Arizona would let him go for anything less than a first, second or third-round pick, you're nuts. We need each of those picks to add much-needed depth and an infusion of talent. Yet, they do have a receiver who could be had for much less.

A college teammate of JaMarcus Russell at LSU, Early Doucet was Arizona's fifth receiver for most of last year. With the emergence of Steve Breaston and Jerheme Urban, Doucet could be had for the right offer; let’s say Justin Fargas.

This would allow both teams to address legitimate needs, would provide Russell with a receiver that he already has chemistry with, and give the Raiders a relatively inexpensive upgrade to their WR corp.

Doucet's first college touchdown catch came from Russell's arm; wouldn't it be fitting for his first NFL touchdown to come the same way?

I just read this article for the first time and thought I would share it. If we can get him on the cheap that would be awesome.

I don't know much about him, but the article did start with saying we need a #1 receiver. I don't think Doucet would be the #1 receiver!!!

Raiders hey blazin

THey must have been searching through my old post.. lol.. That was the trade I was pushing for before the Trading period started. Rankin or Fargas right now would be a solid move for us to ship for doucet.. Doucet is a number 2 WR in the NFL. speed not that much of a killer. he is more hands. I know all about doucet. he is a better WR 2nd option he would put Schilenz in the slot..

this trade has been talked about around the raiders since before the trade period began. it may happen for rankin or fargas.

The Browns are solid on Drafting Michael Crabtree and the Seahawks are looking to Draft BJ Raji.

Still Draftin Derrius Heyward bey is our only option. speed would continue to stretch the field.. and he has it all for a stud WR.

also Raiders Sign DT Ryan Boschetti today & re-sign Sam Williams Linebacker.

No doubt. That's Walker's job. SIKE! I know we need a #1 but I would still look at this guy on the cheap. No way I trade Justin Fargas for him though. That is ridiculous.

Edit: Alright, Justin Fargas will be hurt by game three or four let's trade him.

right with you here! but i cant see us trading fargas. he just redid his contract. but id love to see fargas for early. last years draft i was realllllly hoping we'd draft early doucet OR limas sweed. was REALLY hoping for one or the other. we got neither. but got a steal in chaz. and who knows about arman. but id be down with doucet. but i still think we'd need a 2nd round wr... not necessarily a 1st rounder, but i do not think early is ready to be our #1... but i think he could develop into one. and maybe draft tate in round 4 or so... tate was the #1 wr in UNC before blowing out his knee and that is wen nicks came out of nowhere. but put tate on IR and then next year see what hes got. mayb makes javon walker history next year??? anyways. RAIDERS #1 BABY!!! russel to doucet TD! i like that?

Doucet is a punchline, not an "answer."

We already have plenty of Doucets. We need a Boldin.

If we can't upgrade a position there's no sense whatsoever in making a move.

You're wishing, not reporting.

SEA drafting Raji makes a lot of sense. Who cares?

CLE drafting Crab would be a colossal mistake. Not with Edwards/Stallworth and the newly-signed David Patten. Makes much more sense for them to draft a guy like Robiskie rd 2.

Orakpo would be a solid pickup for their 3-4. They have nobody to rush the passer right now.

Why the hell would we draft an unproductive WR with suspect hands when we can have Maclin if not Crabtree? One of those 2 guys is guaranteed to be there for us.

This Bey jihad at #7 overall is crazy, dude.

If we haven't heard much about the player last year, chances are, he wasn't very good enough to mention. I'm not sure, but I think I would give him a chance. I don't want to lose Fargas though. Maybe Rankin. I would like to know what Russell think about possibly getting Doucet. Would he give up Fargas for him? Russell knows Doucet and I would trust him if he says to get him.
