Raiders GRUDEN, BRUCE ALLEN OPEN TO RAIDERS RETURN

Quote:
GRUDEN, BRUCE ALLEN OPEN TO RAIDERS RETURN

RaiderBeat.com Staff Report

In a much-overlooked radio interview, FOX-TV analyst Tim Ryan told a Bay Area radio station that former Raiders coach Jon Gruden and former Raiders senior assistant Bruce Allen are open to returning for a second stint.
Ryan made it clear that he wasn’t told as much by either Gruden or Allen but that he is confident that both would accept an overture from managing general partner Al Davis to come back to the place where they enjoyed raging success from 1999-2002 — Gruden left after the 2001 season, Allen soon thereafter.

Here is the entire interview, courtesy of KNBR radio in San Francisco:

When Gruden was asked if he would coach the Raiders again he was quoted as saying, ”Tomorrow if I could”.

Until Gruden says he wants to be here from his own mouth, I don't beleive it. Although it would be nice, but Al Davis would never give us that kind of hope.

i believe because gruden has been quoted as saying its hard to work with al davis, but he did miss it in tampa, because he said in oakland if you went up to al davis and said i need a wr, rb, or this player. he would do his best to get him. and he says that is how he got wheatley, garner, gannon, and jerry rice. he went up to al davis and told him if he got these players it would pay off. al davis did that for him and it worked. he said in tampa if you asked for that they didnt necessarily go do that. so if he missed it in tampa, i would think that if they sat down and talked. something could get worked out. we all know davis wants to win, he rehired art shell. im sure if he felt gruden was the best choice it'd get worked out. but i remain optimistic because i think a team will offer gruden a big contract and davis wont match it.

For what it's worth, this was posted on another forum... apparently, Gannon was asked about this report on Sirus Radio...
Quote:
Anyone hear Gannon Sirus Radio today? He knows Gruden is willing to come back!
I was listening to Sirus Radio today and they had Gannon on during one of their segments. He said that he knew for a fact that Gruden would love to come back to Oakland. He said if Al would ask Gruden to come back Gruden would jump all over that opporunity as long as Bruce Allen could return as well.

Gannon also said that he would love to come in as a QB coach if Gruden was here. He said to give him 30 minutes to sit down with JR and he could tell you if JR has what it takes to develop into a great NFL QB. There is no link, it was on the radio.

So knowing how tight Gannon and Gruden are I have no doubt that if Gannon is saying this that he spoke to Gruden about it. I also think that where ever Gruden ends up Allen and Gannon are going with him. I also think that this combination of Gruden as HC and Gannon as QB coach would allow Gruden to just let Gannon deal with the developement of a young QB since Gruden never had patience for that in Tampa.

Al has all of these people willing to help him. He needs to put the Raiders organization before himself and prove he wants to win more than any of us. He needs to let this happen. Gruden was the only coach that could consistently win in as a coach in this organziation in the last 15 years, Allen was a huge part of that, and who better to teach the system to a QB than the guy who ran it perfectly?

As much as I know it's not going to happen, please make the move Al!

Man, I'm drooling over this possibility. Al, if you want to win again, hire Bruce Allen, Jon Gruden and Rich Gannon. Together, they can make a potent offense.
