Raiders Raiders to start Charlie Frye vs. Broncos instead of JaMarcus Russell

Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable said today he will turn to third-stringer Charlie Frye as his starting QB on Sunday, the Denver Post reported. The Raiders travel to play the Broncos this week.

Frye will start in place of the injured Bruce Gradkowski. His elevation is a blow to former starter JaMarcus Russell, the No. 1 overall pick in 2007 who was benched last month.

Frye hasn't played this season, and has made just two starts -- one for the Browns, one for the Seahawks -- in the last three seasons. That the Raiders turn to him is a sign of how little confidence Cable has in Russell.

Russell led the Raiders to a 2-7 start while throwing just two TD passes and 10 interceptions. He completed 48% of his passes and had a passer rating fo 47.7.

Gradkowki led the Raiders to wins in two of his first three starts before hurting both knees in last Sunday's game. The team also added veteran J.P. Losman as insurance on Tuesday.

Guess that makes Russell our 4th string QB.

I'd rather put McFadden behind center than see Russell out on the field again. Ever.

I have to think this speaks not only to Cable's lack of confidence in JR, but Al's as well. We all know that ultimately the decision is made by the Godfather.

Keep DHB out too and we have twice as good a chance for success.

Al brought in 2 respected offensive minds exclusively for JR and he regressed. Even Alfredo can see that.

It's all on JR because he doesn't want it bad enough and he doesn't seem to care. He is not putting in the effort so in my mind, he doesn't care. What a useless piece of shit he is.

Yeah for him not to put in the time shows he doesn't care and is like c-wood was.He just expects to go out on talent alone.Give me a qb who follows in the footsteps of namdi, who got where he is today on pure game film, long hours after practice and heart.I think grad is that man.I just hope his knees get better.

Now Jamarcus is our new Kiffin, kick the SOB out and let him suck ass elsewhere.

I rather have frye anyday. I think the whole team and Raider Org. gave up on Jamarcus. He is done unless Al keeps him around like Walker.

Shit, I think I'd rather see Janokowski at QB then Russell.
