Default Report: Raiders consider veteran receiver

By Bill Williamson
The Raiders reportedly worked out receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh and will give him a physical on Tuesday.

This is a sign the Raiders are going to do all they can to make new quarterback Carson Palmer comfortable. Palmer and Houshmandzadeh played together for several years in Cincinnati. Oakland coach Hue Jackson was Houshmandzadeh’s position coach in Cincinnati.

Palmer and Houshmandzadeh worked out together this fall. So, as the Raiders are giving Palmer a crash course in their system, they are apparently considering giving him a security blanket.

Still, Houshmandzadeh has declined steadily and I’m not sure he’s better than any of the six receivers on Oakland’s roster, so other than giving Palmer a comfort level, I don’t think signing Houshmandzadeh would be overly significant.

This has more to do with the injury to Jason Campbell than anything else if Campbell does not get hurt then we never make the trade for Palmer and right now Hue is trying to make him (Palmer) as comfortable as possible.

Another rumor I just read.

EXCLUSIVE: Oakland Raiders Considering Picking Up Terrell Owens

Quote:
Things must be falling apart in Oakland, as a rumor is PICKING UP STEAM in Oakland that Quarterback Carson Palmer "friend" Terrell Owens could join the team.

It's being said that Carson Palmer and Terrell Owens had GREAT teamwork when both were playing for the Cincinnati Bengals, as Owens racked up 983 yards and nine touchdowns, which the Raiders want to use heading into their playoff campaign push.

The Raiders have been looking for a star wide receiver since Tim Brown retired, and the "possibility" of picking up Owens doesn't sound like a bad idea to those inside the Oakland Raiders, but THERE'S ONLY ONE PROBLEM with the idea, as Carson Palmer doesn't want to give up ANY of his new, younger, receivers he already has in Oakland for the 37-year old unemployed star.

Thus far, Owens hasn't received any phone calls from any of the 32 NFL teams about joining, but it could change as some NFL teams, who have a chance of making it to the NFL playoffs, may contact him to replace their injured Wide Receivers.

It also could remind Palmer of what he did in Cincinnati with Owens, and wake up the sleepy Quarterback.
