Default OT: P226 Question

For those on this board that enjoy firearms, I have a question for you; I plan on buying a new Sig Sauer P226, but am not sure which one - so many choices!

Not too surprisingly, I am torn between a few. I plan on using the gun at the range on occasion and for home defense. Obviously, I want the gun to be reliable and have great accuracy - that is why I am looking at Sigs - and I would like the gun to be durable and look good over time - even after use in-and-out of a holster. Generally, I prefer .40, but am not married to it. Below are the choices I am considering:
  • P226 Stainless Elite
  • P226 Elite Dark
  • P226 Tac Ops
  • P226 MK25
  • P226 Stainless Nitron
Any an all suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone has any experience, which is more durable - nitron or stainless steel? Also, should I look at .40 S&W or .357 SIG (though I can always exchange the barrel, I would assume)? Thanx.

Well, for anyone interested - I made a decision:

The .40 is a good cartridge. I had a Glock in .40. Loved the cartridge, hated the glock.

You can never go wrong with a Sig. I own a P220 and used to have a P228 9mm and a P230 .380 (that's the best .380 available period IMO - if you believe that a .380 is a legitimate self-defense cartridge anyway).

I bought a Sig 1911 Nitron Rail for Christmas. Slapped a flared magwell on it and a set of alumagrips. I'm more accurate with it than any other pistol I've shot. Fucking dead eye.

Nice, congrats - I was considering the 1911, but am not sure whether I will go with the Sig for that. I have heard/read that a Kimber 1911 is the way to go. What made you decide on a Sig 1911? Also, out of curiosity, between the .45 and .357 SIG, which do you prefer?

I went with the Sig because a) Every Sig I have ever shot was top-of-line. b) I have owned Colt and Kimber 1911s. They were disappointing. The Colt was OK but didn't have upgrades like a beavertail, match barrel, extended thumb safety, match trigger, etc. My Kimber was a compact and wouldn't cycle worth a shit. I got rid of it after the first time I shot it. I was pissed.

I saw the Sigs in an ad in American Rifleman and was immediately interested (I'm always interested in Sigs). Looked at this one in a gun store, slightly used, got a good price and "pulled the trigger."

Mine looks far better than this, with the customizations I've made.

It kind of depends on what you need it for?

Home defense or target shooting?

I would always go for the tactical versions on most firearm packages.

Grats, that is why I am into Sig's - their reliability and accuracy!
