Raiders Hue talked to much

Hue Jackson's spin-doctoring inflicts many wounds

Scott Ostler

Sunday, January 15, 2012

Did Hue Jackson get shafted, fired merely because he went emotionally overboard after a tough loss in the final game? Well, a few thoughts:

-- Jackson might turn out to be a great head coach. But come on, it's not like the Raiders just canned the test-tube offspring of Bill Walsh and Bill Belichick.

-- Jackson's chief defender in the media is Yahoo.com's Michael Silver (a friend of mine, as is Mark Davis). In criticizing the Raiders' new owner for firing Jackson, Silver wrote: "Mark Davis is Tommy Boy, trying not to face-plant on a table full of beers." That's pretty harsh. Plus, Davis does not drink.

-- In the movie, Tommy Boy saved the company.

-- Remember how Jackson always referred to Al Davis as "Coach Davis"? Now HuJax says, "Everybody knows my hands were tied. I worked for Al Davis. He ran the defense, always had." Thus, in the afterlife, "Coach Davis," the beloved genius-mentor, has morphed into a lousy defensive coordinator named Al.

-- Jackson praised himself lavishly when he engineered the trade for Carson Palmer. Jackson's current spin: "I didn't make the trade. That decision came from above."

-- Jackson did improve the offense. Most notably, by tailoring it to Darren McFadden. But under Jackson, offensive coordinator then coach, the team's most significant improvement, by far, was the subtraction of JaMarcus Russell.

-- It's time for the Raiders to go in a new direction: Up.

If hiring a defensive type head coach results in wins. Then im all for it.what is it about our players that make coaches want to call us the dumbest team in america?
Ithink Al davis model wad about his players first.coaches second.
this is why so many players slept in meeting rooms ala jamarcus russell.
It was ok to AL...so long as they just won baby......
THE MORE TIME GOES...the more i like the MCkenzie hiring. I JUST wish he gave hue one more year for consistency.

Bottom line is we as fans dont realize it hasnt been our coaches fault all these years. Its been our raider style of play.penalties ..penalties penalties and not coming to play 100% every game.but we continue to blame the john grudens...tom cables...now hue jackson.

If winston moss goes 4-12 next year then what.....

Most raider fans would call for his head.
Then we would be right where we are now.

They never shoulda let hue go

A lot of the great ones were defensive guys. Shula, Landry, Noll, Jimmy Johnson, Cowher, Belichik, Madden...

But then there were guys like Lombardi, Gibbs, Walsh, Flores, Gilman, Ditka, Coryell, Holmgren, Shanahan - offensive dudes.

If you look at the final 4 teams this year, Coughlin and Jim Harbaugh are offensive guys. John harbaugh and Belichik are defensive.

Bottom line I don't think it matters which side of the ball the HC comes from. They basically all face the challenge of learning about the opposite side of the ball, as well as STs.

If you have blinders on you wind up like Billick and Gruden (interestingly enough they both won their SBs with defense, and I think they hated that fact), or Rex Ryan and his father Buddy. Not bad coaches, but not perennial winners either. they seem to get onto a team, do well early and then fade.

4-12!?!? Not only would I call for Moss' head, I'd call for Mckenzie's head as well.

I agree, they never should have axed Hue.

Hmm, the strongest critique the argument makes is simultaneously extremely tenuous - which speaks volumes about the argument:

This would be a solid point if not for the fact that Bresnahan was seemingly, if not indeed an Al Davis hire and the defense was the weakest part of this team. So, yes, the platitude Coach Jackson used may have changed, but his point was valid nonetheless. So far, this firing is still looking like a very very bad move.

When Gruden was asked if he would coach the Raiders again he was quoted as saying, ”Tomorrow if I could”.

Agreed; 8 - 8 would not even cut it, let alone 4 - 12. If Coach Jackson was fired for going 8-8 while carrying that defense and dealing with all those injuries to key players, there is no excuse for not doing MUCH MUCH better this year. If the team does not do markedly better, than firing Coach Jackson would be proven to be a very bad mistake.

My concern is that McKenzie has convinced mark that next season is a throw-away because he's building for the "long term."

Well IMO taking a talented team from 8-8 to something less is not "building" a damn thing. It's tearing down.

And EVERY fucking season matters. SOMEBODY has to win the SB every damn year. And as far as I'm concerned it should be OAK every damn year. Anyone who's not shooting for that has no business playing, coaching or managing a damn thing in the NFL.

I think hue showed too much emotion. Like he cried when the Raiders won in Houston. I understand it was for Mr. Davis, but I didnt see any other player do the same. Also he always looked scared or very nervous in close games. This is the man you want us to lead us into battle?

Um. Yes, because nothing you said matters.
