Default Dennis Allen is the leading candidate in Oakland

Quote:
Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is the leading candidate to become the next head coach of the Oakland Raiders.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen report that the Raiders have identified Allen as their top choice, although there are still some “final steps” that need to be taken care of before they can come to an agreement.

The news comes as something of a surprise because Raiders General Manager Reggie McKenzie has made clear from the beginning that he wants to bring in his own candidate, and McKenzie has no ties with Allen. It was widely reported when McKenzie fired Hue Jackson that Packers assistant head coach and linebackers coach Winston Moss, who had a good working relationship with McKenzie in Green Bay, was the leading candidate in Oakland. But that no longer appears to be the case.

The Raiders have already told other candidates, including Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and Bears offensive coordinator Mike Tice, that they are no longer in consideration.

The 39-year-old Allen was a starting defensive back at Texas A&M in the 1990s but never got further than a training-camp appearance with the Bills in the NFL. His coaching career began as a graduate assistant at Texas A&M, and he then moved on to Tulsa before getting stints as an assistant with the Falcons and Saints. John Fox hired him in Denver a year ago.

Allen would be the first head coach with a defensive background the Raiders have hired since John Madden.
Not too impressed, but could have been worse it seems. It will be interesting to see if Al Saunders stays and how the offense looks without Coach Jackson.

When Gruden was asked if he would coach the Raiders again he was quoted as saying, ”Tomorrow if I could”.

This guy brings nothing to the table. Last year was his first and only season as a coordinator.

I have a REALLY bad feeling that Mark is making these choices with his wallet.

FUCKED

I think based on all the reports it's no doubt allen.
But the mystery candidate throws me off.
I'm hoping for it to be del rio, or even gruden.
I'm serious...it could happen....
Mckenzie says well pay him top dollar and you get to run the house. He'll garauntee him at least 3 years to build this team up the way he wants to without restrictions.
FROM Gruden's perspective it will be an ideal situation if he was already considering a move back into coaching.

He gets a top quarterback to work with and a high octane offense to work with.He would have a tough task to do in fixing this defense but you never know.

Al davis was known for not paying our coaches top dollar but maybe mckenzie convinced mark otherwise.

I'll be holding out hope untill i see allen's press conference

Gruden's no idiot when it comes to defense. In some of the games where he's been doing analysis. I've been quite impressed with some of the points he makes about the D.

I guess when you've spent your life trying to figure out how to pick apart defenses it's only natural to know a few things about that side of the ball.

Raiders

I saw a video of him discussing his views on building a defense from the preseason and I think he will be a solid coach.
