Raiders Tom Cable won't rule out Jeff Garcia as Raiders' starting QB
Raiders head coach Tom Cable isn't dissuading QB Jeff Garcia from thinking he can dislodge JaMarcus Russell as the team's starting quarterback.

Garcia, 39, joined the Raiders as a free agent, presumably to back up Russell, the No. 1 overall pick in 2007 who started 15 games last year.

But Garcia said on Tuesday that he wants to win the starting job. And Cable didn't dismiss the idea on Wednesday.

"I think right now in moving forward our starting quarterback is JaMarcus Russell and Jeff is his backup," Cable said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. "How it all plays out and all that, we're always evaluating this football team. We certainly want to put the best chance on the field to win."

I knew it. Cable couldn't resist Garcia. Like Kiffin always said, "He gives us the best chance to win". We can win now with Garcia. Russell cannot because he is trying to learn how to be a quarterback in the NFL. He'd better learn quick or Al may lose patience with him. With Garcia; GO RAIDERS!

Of course he won't rule it out completely - he'd have to be a moron to do that. Reality is that Russell is the starter right now. When comparisons are made, Russell will have the upper hand if the competition is close, or if Garcia even looks a little bit better. Russell's contract alone dictates that he play unless there is a clear, unmistakable and wide difference in level of play. Garcia is going to have to beat him out convincingly to get on the field.

I would love it if Jamarcus can show us a significant improvement because he is such a big guy with a powerful arm. It would be great if he show us that he has been working his ass off to get to that point. If he doesn't then Garcia will be our guy! Simple is that!
