SI ranks Lurie 4th best owner SI ranks Lurie 4th best owner
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was ranked as the fourth-best owner in the NFL, according to Sports Illustrated.
The magazine ranked the top five and bottom five in each sport. Lurie is the only Philadelphia owner to appear in the rankings.
SI said the rankings were not scientific, but described some of the criteria: "willingness to spend money to improve the team; the stability and capabilities of the front office and management; the amenities at the team's venue; and the club's culture and interactivity with fans. Of course, weighing heavily in the decision was the team's success or failure on the field."
New England's Robert Kraft was at the top of the list, followed by Pittsburgh's Rooney family, the Mara and Tisch families who own the Giants; Lurie and Baltimore's Steve Bisciotti.
Of Lurie, SI wrote: "Lurie has brought consistency to one of the more historically volatile franchises in the NFL (one of his predecessors nearly went bankrupt and another nearly moved the team to Phoenix). Under the Boston-born Lurie, the Eagles are financially secure and have a modern stadium that will guarantee the team continued self-reliance. The Eagles have also had the most success in franchise history, reaching five NFC Championship Games in eight years and appearing in their second Super Bowl."
At the bottom of the list was Oakland's Al Davis.
